CRUSH FALL TRADITIONS WITH FRESH FLAVORS

Temperatures have dropped overnight – and just like that – we’re only three months out from kicking off a whole new year. ABSOLUTELY NO COMPLAINTS FROM ME. See Ya Summer!

Fall has pushed its way into our lives, along with all the cool weather rituals that come with it. This includes everyone’s favorite autumn trends, like:

    • Neighborhood yards morphing into small wheat farms, overrun with straw bales and cornstalks.
    • Losing an hour at night, but somehow gaining lots more sleep.
    • Orange sweaters and Ugg boots…need I say more?
    • Soup becoming a main course instead of a snack.
    • The fashionable return of baggy clothes to cover up summer overindulgence and holiday throwdowns.

And of course, we can’t forget Halloween! It’s the one day when you can transform into someone or something else, and no one judges your style. It’s like a hall pass on life. There’s no pressure about who’s house you need to be at and how long you must stay. Instead, you get to visit everyone within the perfect time limit – knock, candy, go! And when it comes to satisfying your own guests that night, there’s never any stress preparing them a big meal. Hell, store-bought candy is acceptable and bite size recommended.

With all of these amazing traditions, what’s not to LOVE about fall? Well, I’ll tell you… Pumpkins!

Hear me out, guys. Around mid-September, we start to hear whispers about pumpkin-spiced lattes, muffins, sauces, pastas and all the other orange-gourd creations that come out, along with the flannels. Everywhere you look, it’s pumpkin this and pumpkin that. Food that shouldn’t taste like pumpkin becomes infused with its flavor – like some harvest hybrid nightmare. Before you know it, we’re being sold on a pumpkintopia!

With so many great veggies and fruits at their peak this time of year, why does this one, certain squash get to be the center of attention for two months? Isn’t it enough that we’ve devoted a whole damn pie to it and made it the symbol of an entire holiday?

For me, 2020 is the beginning of a boycott… No orange Jack-O-Lantern for Red! I know, I know. Last year I filled my recipes with it, but enough is enough. I’m not one to follow basic, and I love to fight for the underdog. So, I’m booting played-out pumpkin for all my OTHER fall veggies!

Yeah, this won’t be easy. It’s a big undertaking to quit anything cold turkey. But with baby steps, we get there. Here are few other AMAZING, fresh ingredients to consider throwing into the kitchen mix in the chilly days ahead.

    • Acorn Squash
    • Butternut Squash
    • Spaghetti Squash
    • Beets
    • Kohlrabi
    • Radishes
    • Turnips
    • Parsnips
    • Rutabagas

Fire up the stove and use this month’s recipes as a starting point. It’s time we show Jack what’s up!

House Recipe: Turn Your Kitchen Into a Restaurant

HOUSE RECIPE: TURN YOUR KITCHEN INTO A RESTAURANT

The days of dining out might be on temporary hold, but there are ways to shake your family from their “Stay Home” funk at mealtime. We’ve cooked up a few ideas to restaurantify your kitchen and tell isolation to shove off – Clean Eatz style!

    Taste Test Tapas
This super simple setup isn’t just fun, but also will get everyone trying different foods. Pick 5 of your favorite family meals. Put a serving of each on small plates, turning the dining room table into a sampling station. Add an extra touch by printing out a menu that explains each dish, letting your crew try the one at a time. Don’t forget to include Paleo Fudge or CE Buckeye bites as closer!

    Dinner & A Movie
Everyone loves great food and entertainment. Set up a movie-themed dinner night. Maybe an Arnold Wrap Party? Just serve ’em up and cue the Terminator-Predator double feature. Or how about Bowling Night, where everyone builds their own and watches The Big Lebowski? Get creative with your flick selections, and we’ll make sure you have a tasty supporting cast!

    Pizza Party
Grab some Clean Crust Cauliflower Pizzas and let the pies fly. This healthy, DELICIOUS buffet of cheesy goodness is sure to get the family feeling good. Transform your dining room setting with a plastic, red-and-white checkered tablecloth. Throw on some Italian music, put out the pepper flakes mill, and dim the lights… You’ll swear you’re eating at one of the city’s best pizza joints.

    Food Trivia
They say you are what you eat, and this idea makes sure they know the ingredients to living life in the moment. Pick 5 to 7 family meals or café menu items. Desserts count too! Make sure you get a range of different flavors, as each will guide the line of questioning. Here are few themed trivia examples you can use in addition to general food facts:

    • Try to list the ingredients of a meal based on taste.
    • Name a movie or song that references the main ingredient of a meal.
    • List five other dishes that use the main ingredient of a meal.

    Introducing Family Meals

Based on feedback from our customers, we have started to sell family meals. Our family meals are a larger-portioned meal that are intended to feed two adults and two children.

The macros printed on the meal are split into four equal portions. So you may consider the two adults are going to eat more than the listed amounts and the two children will eat less.

No kids? No problem. Lots of our customers are ordering family meals as a dinner alternative for two. Leftovers can be saved just like any other dinner and reheated the next day for a healthy lunch or dinner. The family meal pricing is a great way to save money on meal prep.

Each family meal is served "casserole-style" and will contain a protein, carbohydrate, and vegetable. This allows for a more even and consistent reheating of the meal. We recommend you serve our family meals with a side salad.

Our family meals are portioned to serve two adults and two children. We recommend serving our family meals with a salad.

    • Our family meals are fully-cooked entrees that can be easily reheated for a quick and convenient dinner for four. Let us make life easier for you this week - no shopping, no chopping.
    • Our family meals come frozen in a microwaveable and oven-safe plastic container. Meals can be heated directly in the container or transferred to a 13"x9" baking dish and warmed in the microwave (~12 minutes) or oven (~45 minutes). We recommend taking the meals out of the freezer and placing in the refrigerator the morning you plan to eat the meal, which will reduce the reheating time and cook the meal more evenly.
    • Your order of four family meals can be stored in your freezer for up to two months so there's no need to worry about waste.
