The verdict

Not by default, but it can be. The most-searched item, the Crunchwrap Supreme, is 530 calories with 15g of protein and 1,210mg of sodium. Two Chicken Soft Tacos are 320 calories with 24g of protein and 1,020mg of sodium, a better deal on every count. The weak spots are protein, which runs low across the menu, and sodium, which passes 1,000mg in most burritos, bowls and Crunchwraps.

Is Taco Bell bad for you? Not by default. Most single items land between 160 and 600 calories, which is reasonable for a meal, and Taco Bell says nearly three quarters of its menu comes in under 500 calories. The problems are elsewhere. The menu runs light on protein, so the food doesn't keep you full for long, and almost anything built on a large tortilla or in a bowl crosses 1,000mg of sodium.

Is Taco Bell healthy verdict

Fine on calories, short on protein

We judged Taco Bell the way we judge our own menu: protein first, then sodium, then calories. Calories are rarely the problem here. The other two are.

Two Chicken Soft Tacos win the head to head with the Crunchwrap Supreme. The Crunchwrap takes one row, fiber, and loses the rest.

So, is Taco Bell healthy? It can be a reasonable meal if you order for protein. The default order is the issue. A Crunchwrap Supreme delivers under 3g of protein per 100 calories, which is why it can feel like a full meal at 1 p.m. and a distant memory by 3. Chicken is the lever. Swap beef for chicken, skip the combo side, and the same 300 to 400 calories carry far more protein.

Sodium is the part ordering can't fully fix. Most of Taco Bell's salt lives in the seasoned meat, beans and tortillas, not the toppings, so even the better orders below use close to half a day's sodium. If that number is your constraint, the small crunchy tacos are your friend.

Crunchwrap Supreme vs chicken soft tacos at a glance

One order, two ways

This table puts Taco Bell's most-searched item next to the best all-round order on the menu. Every number is Taco Bell's own, from the nutrition table dated October 29, 2026.

Sodium percentages use the FDA's daily value of 2,300mg. Protein per 100 calories is our arithmetic: grams of protein divided by calories, times 100.

Two Chicken Soft Tacos Crunchwrap Supreme
Calories 320 ✓ 530
Protein 24g ✓ 15g
Protein per 100 calories 7.5g ✓ 2.8g
Sodium 1,020mg ✓ 1,210mg
Share of the 2,300mg daily value 44% ✓ 53%
Carbohydrates 32g 74g
Fiber 2g 6g ✓
Saturated fat 5g ✓ 7g

Next to a Crunchwrap Supreme, two Chicken Soft Tacos have 210 fewer calories, 9g more protein and 190mg less sodium. Credit where it is due: the Crunchwrap carries three times the fiber, 6g against 2g. The Black Bean Crunchwrap Supreme, the vegetarian version, is close behind the original at 520 calories, 13g of protein and 1,090mg of sodium.

  • Protein per 100 calories, because protein is what keeps a meal filling for hours
  • Sodium per order, against the FDA's 2,300mg daily value
  • Calories and fiber, as tie-breakers
  • Only items on Taco Bell's national nutrition table, priced and built as listed

Healthiest Taco Bell orders side by side

Six orders on one grid

We went through the full menu looking for orders with the most protein for their calories and sodium you can live with. These are the ones worth ordering, with the Crunchwrap Supreme at the bottom for comparison.

Below the table, each row gets its own verdict: protein, sodium, the Fresco question, and how a Taco Bell bowl compares with one of ours.

Cantina Chicken Bowl 580 26g 4.5g 1,320mg 11g
Crunchwrap Supreme 530 15g 2.8g 1,210mg 6g

Taco Bell nutrition table, October 29, 2026. Protein per 100 calories is our arithmetic.

Two Chicken Soft Tacos are the best all-round order. The 5-piece Crispy Chicken Nuggets, one of Taco Bell's newer items, edge ahead on protein. They're breaded and fried, though, and the table doesn't include a dipping sauce, so the real order runs higher. The Cantina Chicken Bowl has the most fiber on the list, 11g, mostly from black beans. It's also the biggest meal here, at 580 calories and 1,320mg of sodium.

Crunchwrap Supreme nutrition

Result: Calories fine, protein low

The Crunchwrap Supreme is the item most people look up, with about 35,000 searches a month in the U.S., per Ahrefs data from October 2026. Here's what's in one:

  • 530 calories
  • 15g of protein
  • 1,210mg of sodium, 53% of the FDA's 2,300mg daily value
  • 74g of carbohydrates and 6g of fiber
  • 7g of saturated fat

Calories aren't the issue. Protein is. Fifteen grams works out to under 3g of protein per 100 calories, about a third of what the chicken orders above deliver. A Crunchwrap is a carb-forward meal with a little meat in it, which is fine for a long hike and less fine for a desk afternoon.

Protein at Taco Bell

Winner: Chicken over beef

Why does a Taco Bell meal leave you hungry? Taco Bell builds most of its menu from small portions of seasoned meat, beans, rice and tortilla. That keeps calories in check and protein low. Even the best order above, two Chicken Soft Tacos, has about 7.5g of protein per 100 calories.

For comparison, Chick-fil-A's 12-count Grilled Nuggets have about 19g per 100 calories, and a Panda Express teriyaki chicken bowl about 11g. Protein is what keeps a meal filling for hours, which is why it sits near the top of our list of the best foods for weight loss.

If you want more protein at Taco Bell, order chicken instead of beef. A Chicken Soft Taco has 12g of protein and 160 calories. The beef version has 9g, for 20 more calories. Across two tacos, that is 6g of protein for free.

Taco Bell sodium

Lowest: Two crunchy tacos

Sodium adds up by the item. A Crunchy Taco has 310mg of sodium. A Chicken Soft Taco has 510mg. Anything built on a large tortilla or in a bowl jumps past 1,000mg: the Chicken Burrito Supreme is 1,170mg, the Crunchwrap Supreme 1,210mg and the Cantina Chicken Bowl 1,320mg.

A single item can use up most of a day. The 10-piece Crispy Chicken Nuggets carry 2,140mg, 93% of the FDA's daily value, before any sauce. If sodium is what you're watching, two Crunchy Tacos at 620mg are the lowest-sodium meal on the list above.

Quick sodium example

Two Crunchy Tacos plus a side of black beans come to 390 calories, 17g of protein, 10g of fiber and 760mg of sodium. That's a third of the daily value for a meal with real fiber. Add Nacho Fries instead and you add 350 calories and 790mg more sodium, which is why the combo side matters more than the taco.

Fresco style at Taco Bell

Result: Helps calories, not sodium

Does Fresco style help? Ordering Fresco swaps cheese and creamy sauces for diced tomatoes. Taco Bell says it can cut calories and fat by up to 25%. It helps, but less with sodium than people expect, and Taco Bell's own table shows why.

A Crunchy Taco Supreme, which adds sour cream and tomatoes, has only 20 more calories and 10mg more sodium than a regular Crunchy Taco. Most of the salt is in the seasoned meat, beans and tortilla, so taking the toppings off doesn't remove much of it. Fresco is a fine calorie trim. It isn't a sodium plan.

Cantina Chicken Bowl vs a Clean Eatz Kitchen bowl

Winner: XL Street Corn Chicken

Compared with a chicken bowl from our kitchen, the gap is mostly protein and sodium. Our XL Street Corn Chicken is 400 calories, 40g of protein and 700mg of sodium, according to our nutrition page. Next to the Cantina Chicken Bowl, that's 180 fewer calories, 14g more protein and 620mg less sodium.

Cantina Chicken Bowl XL Street Corn Chicken
Calories 580 400 ✓
Protein 26g 40g ✓
Sodium 1,320mg 700mg ✓
Fiber 11g ✓ 7g
Fat 29g 9g ✓

Credit where it is due: the Cantina bowl has more fiber, 11g against our 7g, thanks to its black beans. And our meal is not a low-sodium meal either. 700mg is about 30% of the daily value, and our current menu runs from 360 to 1,550mg a meal, so check the number on the meal you pick.

Is Taco Bell healthy bottom line

Order chicken, skip the combo

Taco Bell isn't a calorie trap. It's a protein gap with a sodium habit. Two Chicken Soft Tacos give you 24g of protein for 320 calories, and that's the order to default to. The Crunchwrap Supreme is a reasonable 530 calories that won't hold you long, and anything in a bowl or a big tortilla brings close to half a day's sodium or more.

Order chicken over beef, treat Fresco as a calorie trim rather than a sodium fix, and leave the fries out of it. If lunch was a Crunchwrap, dinner is a separate event: put the protein there.

Taco Bell nutrition FAQ

Your questions

Short answers to the questions we get most about Taco Bell, from the Crunchwrap to the old Power Menu Bowl.

Is Taco Bell bad for you?

Not by default. Most items are between 160 and 600 calories, and Taco Bell says nearly three quarters of its menu is under 500. The weak spots are protein, which runs low across the menu, and sodium, which passes 1,000mg in most burritos, bowls and Crunchwraps. Order chicken and skip the combo side.

Is Taco Bell good for weight loss?

It can be. Two Chicken Soft Tacos are 320 calories with 24g of protein, the best balance on the menu. Skip the combo, since sides like Nacho Fries add 350 calories. Weight loss comes from your whole day, so a 320-calorie lunch with real protein makes dinner easier to keep reasonable.

How many calories are in a Crunchwrap Supreme?

It isn't on Taco Bell's national nutrition list updated October 29, 2026. The closest item is the Cantina Chicken Bowl: 580 calories, 26g of protein, 11g of fiber and 1,320mg of sodium. It has more fiber than any order on our list and more sodium than most.

What is the lowest-sodium meal at Taco Bell?

Of the orders we compared, two Crunchy Tacos are lowest at 620mg of sodium, 340 calories and 14g of protein. A Crunchy Taco has 310mg on its own. Most items built on a large tortilla or in a bowl pass 1,000mg, and Fresco style barely changes that because the salt is in the meat, beans and tortilla.
