When you think of February, the first thing that comes to mind is Valentine’s Day. Love is in the air, but does that sentiment carry over into the gym?
Well, as the saying goes, “Couples who train together stay together.” Still, I was torn on which way to angle this blog. My first thought was couples should NOT team up on exercise. But then I felt guilty because my hubby is a great workout partner. I decided to run a Facebook poll to tap into some close sources – all of you guys!
The majority of those who participated – 80% in fact – favored couples training together. With that in mind, follow these couples’ workout do’s and don’ts to get the most out of hitting the gym with your Valentine!!
1. Try something totally new
Dive into the experience of trying something different with a partner workout. Gentlemen, when introducing your significant other to the world of weightlifting, always prioritize safety. Whether you're showing her the ropes of a bench press or a deadlift, instill in her the belief that she's as competent as you in the gym environment. For the ladies, guiding your partner through a unique treadmill routine you discovered on Pinterest or sharing a few yoga poses you've mastered is equally enriching. A couple working out together, teaching and learning from each other, is a fantastic way to remain open-minded and continually engaged.
2. Have a common goal
It's essential for a couple working out together to have a shared objective. Choose a target that's specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound. It can be disheartening when you and your partner are on the same workout program, yet they seem to be making more progress. For instance, men typically have a higher muscle percentage, allowing them to burn more calories, both during workouts and at rest.
13. Working out as a couple is about balance
A successful partner workout is all about balance. The objective is to discover an exercise routine that both of you enjoy, turning fitness into a shared and positive journey. Working out as a couple can be an excellent method to enhance your bond and introduce a bit of friendly competition. This approach can also prevent the weight gain that couples sometimes experience from frequent dinners out and couch potato evenings. Keep each other driven, enjoy the partner workout experience, but also ensure you're not being bothersome to those around you.

If you're enthusiastic about a partner workout, it's essential not to force or guilt your partner into joining you, especially if they're not keen.
