Hard-boiled eggs
Near zero carbsTwo large hard-boiled eggs have about 1g of carbs and 13g of protein. Boil a batch on Sunday and keep them in the fridge. A pinch of smoked paprika helps.
20 low-carb snacks that keep you full
Every pick has 9g net carbs or less, and 15 of the 20 have 3g or less. Each one leans on protein, fat or fiber, with USDA numbers so you can see the carbs before you eat.

The best low carb snacks pair a protein or fat that has almost no carbs with something crunchy or fresh. Think hard-boiled eggs (about 1g net carbs for two), parmesan crisps (1g), tuna or chicken salad in lettuce cups (2g or less, with 22 to 30g of protein), plain pork rinds (0g) and pecans (1g an ounce). Protein-forward picks have the best evidence for fullness, though the effect is modest.
A snack should get you to your next meal. On a low carb plan that gets harder, because most grab-and-go options are crackers, bars and chips.
So every pick here leans on protein, fat or fiber. Net carbs are total carbohydrate minus fiber, from USDA FoodData Central values for the serving listed. Brands vary, so check your label.
There's also no single definition of low carb. A StatPearls review puts a low carb diet at about 50 to 150g of carbs a day and very low carb at 20 to 50g. If you have diabetes or take a medication that lowers blood sugar, talk with your doctor or a registered dietitian before you cut carbs hard.

Net carbs, protein and calories per serving, from USDA FoodData Central
The best low carb snacks are the ones you keep on hand. Planning whole days? Our low-carb meal prep recipes keep each recipe under 20g of carbs, and these low carb snack ideas fill the gaps.
Protein first, carbs barely there
These eight high protein low carb snacks do the most for fullness, and the evidence there is real but modest. A review in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that higher-protein meals raise perceived fullness and satiety hormones. It didn't find a reliable drop in how much people eat at the next meal.
Snacks have been tested too. In a small crossover trial of 20 women, a 160-calorie high-protein yogurt snack cut afternoon hunger more than chocolate did and pushed dinner back about 30 minutes. Most low carb high protein snacks start the same way, with eggs, meat, fish or cheese.
Our filling snacks rich in protein are ready to heat or eat, but they're not low carb. Our breakfast burritos run 19 to 21g of carbs and our empanadas 28 to 31g.
No cooking beyond boiling eggs once a week.
Hard-boiled eggs
Near zero carbsTwo large hard-boiled eggs have about 1g of carbs and 13g of protein. Boil a batch on Sunday and keep them in the fridge. A pinch of smoked paprika helps.
Beef jerky
Read the labelUSDA's figure for an ounce of beef jerky is about 3g net carbs with 9g of protein. Sweet glazes change that fast, so compare total carbs per ounce. It's salty too, at roughly 500mg of sodium.
Turkey & Swiss roll-ups
Lunchbox pickRoll 2 ounces of low-sodium deli turkey around a 1-ounce slice of Swiss cheese. That's about 20g of protein for 2g of net carbs. A smear of mustard or a pickle spear adds bite.
Aged cheese snacks like parmesan, cheddar and Swiss carry about 1g of carbs an ounce or less.
Parmesan crisps
Crunchy swapGrate an ounce of parmesan into 6 small piles on a parchment-lined sheet. Bake at 400°F for 5 to 7 minutes, until golden. They crisp as they cool, with 10g of protein and about 1g of carbs.
Savory cottage cheese bowl
Light & creamyHalf a cup of 2% cottage cheese with half a cup of sliced cucumber gives you 12g of protein for under 100 calories. At about 7g net, it's the highest-carb pick in this group, since cottage cheese keeps more milk sugar than aged cheese.
Cheddar & olives
Snack plateAn ounce of sharp cheddar with 10 large black olives makes a small snack plate for about 3g of net carbs. Olives are brined, so this pair lands near 500mg of sodium.
Three romaine leaves stand in for bread and add well under 1g of net carbs.
Tuna salad lettuce wraps
Pantry stapleMix 3 ounces of drained light tuna with 1 tablespoon of mayo and a quarter cup of diced celery. Spoon it into 3 romaine leaves. That's 22g of protein for less than a gram of net carbs. A squeeze of lemon brightens it.
Chicken salad lettuce wraps
Most proteinThis one swaps mayo for 2 tablespoons of plain Greek yogurt. Stir it into 3 ounces of diced cooked chicken breast with celery and dill, then fill 3 romaine leaves. About 30g of protein and 2g net carbs, the most protein on this list.
Crunch without the chips
Chips are what most people miss when they cut carbs. These low carb crunchy snacks fill that spot. Most of them work as keto snacks too, at 3g of net carbs or less per serving. For a shopping list, see our keto staples for your grocery list.
Nuts are mostly fat, so carbs stay low and calories run high. Count out an ounce.
Pecans
Lowest-carb nutAn ounce of pecans has about 4g of carbs, and almost 3g of that is fiber. Net carbs land near 1g. Toast them in a dry skillet for a few minutes to wake up the flavor.
Macadamia nuts
RichestMacadamias are buttery and the most calorie-dense pick on this list, at 204 calories an ounce. With only 2g of protein, they're a fat snack. Pair a few with cheese or jerky if you want more protein.
Almonds
Most fiber of the nutsAlmonds bring 6g of protein and 3.5g of fiber an ounce. Roasted and salted is fine. Skip honey-roasted, which USDA lists with noticeably more carbs.
Pumpkin seeds
Top seed for proteinShelled pumpkin seeds, sold as pepitas, have 8g of protein an ounce. That beats every nut here. Eat them straight or scatter them over cottage cheese. Buy the green kernels, since whole seeds in the shell carry far more carbs.
Both are light, salty and close to carb-free.
Pork rinds
Zero carbsPlain pork rinds have 0g of carbs in USDA's data and about 9g of protein per half ounce. They're salty, at roughly 260mg of sodium for that half ounce. Crushed, they also make a breading for baked chicken.
Roasted seaweed
LightestFive grams of dried seaweed has about 15 calories and 2g of net carbs, per USDA. Roasted snack packs are brushed with oil and salt, so check the label. It's a flavor fix, not a filling snack on its own.
The vegetables cost almost nothing in carbs. The dip is where carbs and calories hide.
Celery & almond butter
Sweet & savoryTwo medium celery stalks with a tablespoon of almond butter come to about 2.5g of net carbs. Look for a jar with almonds and salt as the only ingredients.
Bell pepper & guacamole
Most fiberHalf a cup of red pepper strips with a quarter cup of mashed avocado gives you 5g of fiber, the most on this list. Mash the avocado with lime juice, salt and a little onion and you've made guacamole.
Cucumber, radishes & ranch
Party trayHalf a cup each of sliced cucumber and radishes with 2 tablespoons of ranch lands around 4g of net carbs. Most of the calories come from the dressing. For more protein, stir ranch seasoning into plain Greek yogurt.
Something sweet, carbs counted
Low carb sweet snacks mostly come down to berries. In raspberries and blackberries, more than half the carbs are fiber, per USDA. Our guide to low-carb fruits for every day covers more options.
Pair the fruit with fat or protein.
Raspberries & whipped cream
Dessert stand-inWhip 2 tablespoons of heavy cream with a drop of vanilla and spoon it over half a cup of raspberries. That's about 4g of net carbs. Leave the sugar out of the cream. The berries are sweet enough.
Blackberries & Greek yogurt
Sweet with proteinTop 150g of plain whole-milk Greek yogurt, about two-thirds of a cup, with half a cup of blackberries. You get 15g of protein. At about 9g net it's the highest-carb snack here. Fruit-flavored Greek yogurt has about three times the carbs of plain in USDA's data, so buy plain.
Strawberries & ricotta
Cheesecake feelA quarter cup of part-skim ricotta with half a cup of sliced strawberries and a pinch of cinnamon tastes a lot like cheesecake filling. It has about 8g of net carbs and 8g of protein.
Read the label, then the portion
Healthy low carb snacks need more than a low carb count. Jerky passes the carb test but is salty. Macadamias pass too, yet an ounce has more calories than two eggs. Check these:
When a snack is really a skipped meal, a real meal works better. Ours aren't low carb by keto standards. The lowest-carb meal on our current menu (October 2026) is Basic Chicken Breast & Sweet Potatoes, with 24g of carbs, 7g of fiber and 40g of protein for 300 calories.

Common questions
Plain pork rinds (0g), hard-boiled eggs (about 1g for two), parmesan (about 1g an ounce) and tuna or chicken salad in lettuce leaves (2g or less) come closest to zero. Plain meat, fish and eggs have essentially no carbs. Sauces, glazes and breading are where carbs sneak back in.
They can help if they keep your total calories in check, but low carb isn't magic. In the 12-month DIETFITS trial of 609 adults, a healthy low carb diet and a healthy low fat diet led to similar weight loss, 6.0 kg versus 5.3 kg, with no significant difference. Talk with your doctor or a registered dietitian if you have a medical condition.
There's no official number. A StatPearls review defines a low carb diet as about 50 to 150g of carbs a day and very low carb as 20 to 50g. On a 20 to 50g day, a snack under 5g net carbs leaves room for meals. Closer to 150g, a 10 to 15g snack still fits.
Not by keto standards, and we'd rather say so up front. Our breakfast burritos have 19 to 21g of carbs and our protein empanadas 28 to 31g. They're built for protein, with 11 to 22g each, not for very low carb days. Every meal's carbs are on our Nutrition Info page.
