Quick answer

A premade meal helps with weight loss when it fixes the calories for you and still fills you up. The 12 below, all from our current nutrition chart, run 250 to 420 calories with 23 to 48 grams of protein. They're listed from lowest to highest calorie. Sodium is the number to watch: only two of them come in under 400 mg.

Most weight loss plans fail at 6 p.m., not at the grocery store. You know what to eat. You're just tired, and the fridge is full of ingredients instead of dinners.

A premade meal moves that decision to the day you order. This list is our own menu, so we'll be upfront about it: every number comes from our Nutrition Info page as of November 2026, and we'll tell you where each meal falls short, too.

What makes a premade meal good for weight loss

Calories fixed, protein high

Not all premade meals help. A frozen pasta bowl at 700 calories is premade too. For premade meals for weight loss, we look at four numbers on the label:

  • Calories you can plan around: roughly 250 to 450 for a meal leaves room for snacks and a second meal in most calorie targets.
  • Protein, ideally 25 grams or more: protein helps you stay full and protects muscle while you're eating less.
  • Fiber: more is better. Most of ours land at 4 to 7 grams.
  • Sodium: FDA's label guide calls 20% of the Daily Value or more per serving high. For sodium that's 460 mg.

The FDA Nutrition Facts label guide is worth five minutes if you've never read one closely. It also explains why serving size comes first: a meal that's two servings has twice the numbers.

Is there evidence that premade meals work? Some. In a 12-week trial of 183 adults, people given portion-controlled prepackaged lunches and dinners lost 7.8 to 8.6% of their body weight, compared with 6.0% for people choosing their own food. An 8-week trial of 60 men found a similar edge. Both were short, everyone in them was on a structured weight loss diet, and one author of the larger study worked for a food company. The pattern still makes sense: fewer decisions, fewer chances to overshoot. Our post on how pre-made meals cut decision fatigue goes deeper on that part.

1

Baja salmon

Lowest calorie
250 calories · 25g protein · 29g carbs · 4g fiber · 420mg sodium

Grilled salmon with asparagus, corn and peppers in salsa verde over brown rice. At 250 calories, it's the lightest meal on this list, one of only three under 20% DV for sodium, and the only fish. The catch is price: $12.99 on our Build A Meal Plan menu, the most expensive of the 12.

2

Chicken strips & rice

Low sodium
260 calories · 30g protein · 25g carbs · 4g fiber · 380mg sodium

Chicken strips, green beans and brown rice. Nothing fancy, which is the point.

  • 30g protein for 260 calories
  • Meets FDA's low-sodium main dish rule
  • $8.99, among our lowest prices
3

Chicken breast & sweet potatoes

Most protein per calorie
300 calories · 40g protein · 24g carbs · 7g fiber · 580mg sodium

Forty grams of protein in 300 calories works out to about 13 grams per 100 calories, the best ratio here. Add 7 grams of fiber and it's the meal on this list most likely to keep you full until the next one.

The one number to watch is sodium. At 580 mg it's 25% of the Daily Value, so keep the rest of that day lighter. Price: $9.49.

4

Diced chicken & red potatoes

Lowest sodium
300 calories · 25g protein · 27g carbs · 5g fiber · 360mg sodium

Listed on the menu as Basic Chicken & Red Potatoes ($8.99), this is diced chicken with green beans and potatoes, and at 360 mg it has the lowest sodium on our whole chart. Pick it when you're watching salt more than protein.

5

Beef & sweet potatoes

Leanest beef
310 calories · 24g protein · 29g carbs · 7g fiber · 750mg sodium

Shredded beef with green beans and sweet potatoes, $10.99. If chicken is getting old, this is the lowest-calorie beef meal on the list.

6

Pulled chicken & mash

Comfort pick
330 calories · 28g protein · 34g carbs · 5g fiber · 680mg sodium

Pulled chicken thigh over mashed potatoes with green beans: the one for nights that call for something soft and warm.

Thigh is richer than breast, which shows up as 9 grams of fat. Still a solid 330-calorie dinner for $8.99.

Comfort food you can count is the kind that keeps a plan going.

7

Jamaican jerk chicken

Most flavor
340 calories · 34g protein · 38g carbs · 5g fiber · 750mg sodium

Jerk chicken over brown rice with pineapple, broccoli, peppers and cilantro lime, $10.49. Flavor counts as a weight loss tool: you're far more likely to stick with meals you look forward to, and 34 grams of protein for 340 calories fits most plans. Sodium runs 750 mg.

8

Beef barbacoa

Needs a side
360 calories · 23g protein · 35g carbs · 2g fiber · 460mg sodium

Chipotle-rubbed beef over white rice with fajita peppers and onions, sold as Basic Beef Barbacoa & Rice for $10.99.

  • Lowest protein on the list, so add a Greek yogurt or a boiled egg
  • Only 2g fiber, so add a side salad or steamed vegetables
  • Sodium sits right at 20% DV
9

Sweet & sour chicken

Takeout swap
400 calories · 25g protein · 51g carbs · 5g fiber · 650mg sodium

This is the Friday takeout replacement. Sold as Sweet N Sour Chicken for $8.99, it's breaded chicken in a sweet and sour glaze with broccoli and carrots.

It's also the highest-carb meal here at 51 grams, most of it from the glaze. If carbs are your limit, skip it.

10

Street corn chicken

High protein pick
400 calories · 40g protein · 40g carbs · 7g fiber · 700mg sodium

XL Street Corn Chicken pairs chicken with creamy, Mexican-inspired corn and red potatoes, $9.99. The XL portion brings 40 grams of protein and 7 grams of fiber.

One honest note: our Build A Meal Plan card lists it at 380 calories and our nutrition chart at 400. We've used the chart.

11

A1 beef bowl

Off the menu for now
410 calories · 41g protein · 37g carbs · 2g fiber · 800mg sodium

The XL A1 Beef Bowl is still on our nutrition chart with 41 grams of protein, but it isn't on the Build A Meal Plan menu right now. If you can't find it, XL Street Corn Chicken is the closest swap.

12

BBQ chicken & red potatoes

Most protein
420 calories · 48g protein · 34g carbs · 4g fiber · 550mg sodium

XL BBQ Chicken Red Potatoes has the most protein on this list: 48 grams for 420 calories, with peppers and onions, $10.49.

Make it your biggest meal of the day, or save it for days you train.

A note on honesty: these 12 are among the leaner meals on our menu. Our full chart runs from 250 to 630 calories and from 360 to 1,550 mg of sodium. Any healthy premade meal delivery service should show you the whole range, not just the flattering end, so sort the chart yourself.

How to fit premade meals into a weight loss plan

Replace the hard meals first

You don't need premade meals delivered three times a day. Most people do best replacing the one or two meals they struggle with, usually lunch at work and dinner on busy nights.

  1. Pick your hard meals: if dinner keeps turning into takeout, start there.
  2. Choose by your limit: watching sodium? Start with the three meals under 460 mg. Hungry all the time? Lean on the high protein premade meals, 30 grams and up.
  3. Add a side when the numbers are low: a piece of fruit or a big salad adds volume and fiber for very few calories.
  4. Keep a backup in the freezer: a tray you can heat in a few minutes is what stops the 9 p.m. drive-through.

How much weight to expect? For most adults, NIDDK's guidance on weight management gives losing 5% of your body weight over 6 months as an example of a good first goal. Premade meals make the calories easier to control. They don't change the math.

Our premade meal delivery page explains how our boxes work. For premade meal delivery for weight loss specifically, the weight loss meal plan is portion-controlled, calorie-controlled and macro-balanced, from $89.95 for 10 meals, about $9.00 a meal, down to about $7.56 a meal at 30. If protein is your priority, the High Protein Meal Plan adds about 2 extra ounces of meat to each meal. Every meal plan order ships free to the contiguous 48 states, and there's no subscription.

If you have diabetes, kidney disease or another condition, or you take medicine that affects appetite or weight, talk with your doctor or a registered dietitian before changing how you eat.

Premade meals FAQ

Quick answers

Are premade meals healthy?

They can be. Premade healthy meals look like any healthy meal on the label: a planned calorie count, 25 grams or more of protein, some fiber and sodium you can fit into your day. Read the label first. A premade meal can just as easily be 800 calories and 1,500 mg of sodium.

Can you lose weight eating premade meals?

Yes, if they help you eat fewer calories than you burn. In a 12-week trial, adults eating portion-controlled prepackaged entrées lost 7.8 to 8.6% of their weight versus 6.0% on self-selected food. Healthy premade meals delivered to your door remove a decision, not the need for a calorie deficit.

How long do premade meals last?

Ours stay good in the freezer for 12 months from the production date printed on each package, per our FAQ. Once thawed, eat them within 3 to 4 days. You can also heat them straight from frozen, so you don't have to plan a thaw.
