The verdict

Optavia, renamed Trilivy in July 2026, is a coach-guided program: 5 Fuelings and 1 Lean & Green meal you cook each day, from $480 per 28 days ($384 on a first autoship order), plus groceries and $12.95 shipping. Clean Eatz Kitchen sends complete chef-cooked meals from about $7.56 to $9.00 each, shipped free, with no subscription. Want a coach and strict structure? Trilivy fits. Want real food you can keep eating? Choose us.

Optavia has a new name. In July 2026 its parent company, Medifast, renamed it Trilivy and relaunched it as a three-phase metabolic health system. The core of the first phase looks familiar: packaged Fuelings most of the day, one home-cooked meal, and a coach.

We work differently. You pick complete, portion-controlled meals built by a registered dietitian, and you reorder only when you want to. No program, no coach.

Optavia vs Clean Eatz Kitchen verdict

Who wins for most people

If you're reading Optavia reviews, you're probably asking two things: will it work, and can I keep it up? We answer both from published research and Trilivy's own terms, not from anyone's testimonial.

These aren't the same kind of product. Trilivy is a program built around meal replacements. We're food.

For most people we'd pick Clean Eatz Kitchen. You eat real meals with every number on the label, and the meals you lose weight on are meals you can keep eating.

Trilivy is the better pick for people who want a coach checking in and a tightly structured, low-calorie day. That support is real, we don't offer it, and for some people it's exactly what makes a plan stick.

How we compared the Optavia diet & Clean Eatz Kitchen

Published numbers, no taste test

Clean Eatz Kitchen publishes this comparison of its own meals with Optavia. Prices, nutrition and ordering terms come from each company's website as of October 2026. Trilivy prices are as listed on Trilivy's site in October 2026, so check both sites before you buy.

So, what is Optavia today? It's Trilivy's Reset 5 & 1 Plan, the first of three phases (Reset, Refine and Renew), sold through independent coaches. We compared it with our Weight Loss Meal Plan, using the checklist in NIDDK on choosing a weight-loss program: ask what the program costs from start to finish, food included, and whether it has a plan for keeping the weight off. We looked at:

  • Cost per day, including shipping and the groceries each plan asks you to buy
  • What you actually eat: meal replacements, complete meals, or both
  • Coaching, structure and how easy it is to change or stop
  • Calories and protein, as each company publishes them
  • What happens after you reach your goal

Clean Eatz Kitchen & Optavia side by side

Two approaches on one grid

The Optavia diet on the Reset 5 & 1 Plan means 5 Reset Fuelings and 1 Lean & Green meal a day, eaten every 2 to 3 hours. Fuelings come in boxes of 7 for $24. The Reset plan's $480 cart holds 20 boxes, 140 Fuelings, or 28 days at 5 a day.

Ours is simpler. You pick meals, we ship them frozen, you heat them.

Build My Plan

Optavia pros & cons

Trilivy

Best for coaching

Optavia weight loss has trial data behind it. In a 2019 randomized trial funded by Medifast, 198 adults followed a plan for 16 weeks. The coached 5 & 1 group lost 5.7% of body weight on average, and 28.1% lost at least 10%, against 1.6% of the self-directed diet group.

Pros

  • A 1:1 coach and a community, included in every plan
  • Little to decide: 5 Fuelings and 1 Lean & Green meal a day
  • Ships to all 50 states, including Alaska and Hawaii
  • A defined next step after weight loss: the Refine and Renew phases

Cons

  • About 800 to 1,000 calories a day on the 5 & 1 plan, low enough to clear with your doctor first
  • You still shop for and cook a Lean & Green meal every day
  • The best price depends on a $350+ autoship order every 28 days
  • Packaged Fuelings fill 5 of your 6 daily eating times

Optavia vs Clean Eatz Kitchen category breakdown

Four categories, four calls

A grid shows what each service is. It doesn't show what a day costs, what you eat at 3 p.m., or what happens when you hit your goal.

So here are the four categories that matter most, with a call on each. Trilivy wins one outright.

Cost per day

Result: Even match

Trilivy's Reset 5 & 1 Plan is $480 for 28 days of Fuelings, about $17.14 a day. Premier+ autoship takes 20% off a first order of $350 or more ($384, about $13.71 a day) and 15% off every order after ($408, about $14.57 a day). Add $12.95 shipping an order and groceries for 28 Lean & Green dinners.

Two of our meals a day cost $15.12 to $18.00, shipped free, and you add your own breakfast and snacks. Day for day, that's close.

Quick cost example

Trilivy: $384 for the first 28 days on autoship, then $408, plus shipping and dinner groceries. Clean Eatz Kitchen: 30 Weight Loss meals for $226.75, shipped free, nothing recurring.

Optavia fuelings vs full meals

Winner: Clean Eatz Kitchen

Optavia Fuelings, now Trilivy Reset Fuelings, are pre-portioned shakes, bars, oatmeal, pancakes and mashed potatoes.

Trilivy says each is carb controlled, with high-quality protein, fiber and 24+ vitamins and minerals. The one real meal is the Optavia Lean and Green dinner: 5 to 7 ounces of lean protein, 3 servings of non-starchy vegetables and up to 2 healthy fats, from 300+ recipes. In the 2019 trial, the whole day added up to 80 to 120 g of protein. It works, but most of what you eat comes from a packet.

Our meals are the full plate, already cooked: 20 g to 55 g of protein on our current menu, median 31.5 g. You learn portions by eating them.

Coaching, structure & flexibility

Winner: Trilivy

This is Trilivy's strongest category. Every plan includes a personal coach, a community and the Habits of Health program, and Trilivy says about 90% of its coaches started as clients. In the 2019 trial, weight change tracked with completed coaching calls. Trilivy lets you change or cancel autoship anytime, and we have no subscription at all.

If you want someone checking in on you, Trilivy wins.

Life after the program

Winner: Clean Eatz Kitchen

Trilivy's Refine phase moves you to 2 ASCEND Fuelings, 2 Lean & Green+ meals and whole-food snacks, listed from $404. But a 2015 review found Medifast's edge over counseling faded after 6 months.

With us, there's nothing to wean off. Switch to our Everyday Maintenance Meal Plan, from $94.95 for 10 meals, or order fewer meals and cook more. Weight loss meal delivery that sticks covers the habits that last after the box.

Who should choose Optavia or Clean Eatz Kitchen

Pick by the help you need

Key takeaways

  • Optavia is now Trilivy: same Medifast company, new name, new Fuelings
  • A Trilivy Reset day is 5 Fuelings and 1 home-cooked meal
  • Clean Eatz Kitchen sends complete meals, shipped free, no subscription
  • Trilivy wins on coaching. We win on real food and what comes next

The Optavia meal plan works best as a short, structured reset with a coach beside you. Trilivy itself recommends talking with your healthcare provider before you start. We'd say that for any plan, ours included, especially if you're pregnant, have kidney disease, take GLP-1 medication or have a history of disordered eating.

So match the plan to what you need help with. If it's accountability, a coach is worth paying for. If it's dinner, buy the meals. Our Weight Loss Meal Plan is the simplest place to start.

Choose Clean Eatz Kitchen if
  • You want real, complete meals instead of shakes and bars most of the day
  • You'd rather not cook a separate dinner every night
  • You want something you can keep eating after the weight comes off
Choose Trilivy if
  • You want a personal coach and a community to keep you accountable
  • You like a fixed daily schedule with almost nothing to decide
  • You live in Alaska, Hawaii or a U.S. territory, where we don't ship

Optavia vs Clean Eatz Kitchen FAQ

Short answers

Optavia diet reviews raise the same few questions, and the name change to Trilivy added one more. Sources are at the end of the page.

Is Optavia the same as Trilivy?

Yes. Medifast announced on July 17, 2026 that Optavia was rebranding to Trilivy, a three-phase metabolic health system with Reset, Refine and Renew phases. The independent coaches carried over, and newly formulated Fuelings launched in August. Optavia's website now redirects to Trilivy's.

What do Optavia reviews say about keeping weight off?

Customer stories vary, so we'd lean on the research. A 2015 review of commercial programs found Medifast produced 5.6% more weight loss than counseling at 4 months, but the gap wasn't statistically significant at 9 months. Trilivy's own trial lasted 16 weeks.

Can you eat real meals instead of Optavia Fuelings?

Not on the Reset 5 & 1 Plan, which is built around 5 Fuelings a day. For real meals, our Weight Loss Meal Plan sends complete, calorie-controlled meals. Ask your doctor or a registered dietitian for a calorie target that fits you.

How much does Trilivy cost a month?

As listed on Trilivy's site in October 2026, the Reset 5 & 1 Plan starts at $480 for 28 days, or $384 on a first Premier+ autoship order and $408 after. Shipping and Lean & Green groceries are extra.
